Abstract: This is just a sample data set of what a schoolyard flora might look like. Teachers may add new species of plants that are growing on school grounds and discovered by students. To add a new species, the checklist administrator (we presume the teacher) must be logged in. The teacher may then click on the pencil icon to the upper left of the checklist screen that is labeled 'Spp.'. This will display the 'Add New Species to Checklist' dialog. Use the 'Taxon' field to add a new scientific name. You don't have to be an excellent speller, because the picklist will suggest names that are close to what you are typing. Once you've found the right name, you can click it in the list and add information about habitat and other notes about where your student found the plant growing. By default, only the scientific name is displayed, but checking boxes in the right hand menu and clicking 'rebuild list' will display the list with common names and other information regarding the presence of a particular species on your school grounds. Images of live plants may be uploaded by clicking on a scientific name. Try clicking on 'Sarracenia flava' for an example of some live specimen images. You will see a new tab open in your browser and you can click on each of the images of Yellow Pitcher Plants to see more information about each individual photo.
