Habitat: Euonymus fortunei is growing along appx. 200 yards of the Swamp Rabbit Trail (a walking/biking rails-to-trail in Greenville) as it parallels the Reedy River. It is found here in scattered dense patches as a non-flowering ground cover, a non-flowering climbing vine, and also as a flowering climbing shrub growing on at least a half dozen large trees to a height of over 30'. These specimens are from the Euonymus on one of those trees and include stems of both the lower-growing non-flowering (juvenile?) stage and branches of the higher-growing flowering state, in fruit.
